Welcome

to heart-felt.net

heart-felt.net is my haven of creativity and I welcome you to it. It's here that you will find all the stories I have written since 2001; some finished, some still in progress and some that have barely been touched since I wrote the first word. This is my writing portfolio and everything here, unless otherwise stated, is copyrighted to me.

Ever since I was a young girl, I loved to read. The first story I ever wrote was actually a school assignment; the topic was the Easter Bunny. I didn't actively start writing stories again until in my teens and then I started with a story that continued where one of my favorite books ended. I created new characters and added in old ones that I had interact with each other. In actuality, I just rewrote the story a tiny bit with different characters, but that's what I started with.

Then came highschool and big dreams. I started a story I called Dreams Come True. When I read that one these days, I realize that I wrote down all my dreams and fantasies and turned them all into a story. In real life, none of it would be possible. In my fantasy world when I was thirteen, everything could happen.

When I was around 13, I came up with an idea for a story that I wanted to write featuring a girl named Aemen. That's where my nickname comes from. Of course, back then I didn't know there was an actual Dutch rock band called Aemen and I didn't find out until last year, after I'd already been using that name for 3 years. But that's beside the point. That story where Aemen made her first appearance to me still has to be written. I always knew what had to happen, but I never could get it down on paper. Let's hope that now I can.

In 2001, I bought my first computer and could finally find out what the Internet was all about. In those days, I discovered message boards and websites, and figured out that I could do those things, too. So when I started a website for NSYNC fanfiction, I started writing it, too.

My writing skill has definitely developed over the years and changed in ways that are much better, in my opinion. It didn't only improve story-wise, but also writing-wise. Whereas I used to type everything in one gigantic paragraph, now I use many paragraphs. Etcetera. A lot has changed over the years and some of the stories I write these days please me, a lot. Most of the time I re-read what I've written the day before and while reading, I can't wait to see what happens next. The thing is, though: I'm the writer. If I don't write it, I'll never figure out what's going to happen next.

I'd best get to it.

A little interview

When did you know you liked to write stories?
The first time I can remember that I’d written a story was in elementary school. The entire class had gotten the assignment to write something about the easter bunny. I went all out with it and wrote a whole story about the Easter Bunny hopping all over the place looking for his eggs and I made a drawing to go with it. The short story itself had been written on the right page while the drawing was on the left page. That truly is the first time I can remember ever writing a story.

How about after that? Did you continue writing?
No, I didn’t. From what I can remember, the next story came many years after that school assignment. I was in high school and writing a story about a girlgroup who suddenly exploded onto the music scene. That story was called ‘Dreams Come True’ and was basically my first attempt into fanfiction, even though I didn’t know it at the time. A lot of things happened in that story (which I never even finished) that could never happen in real life.

How much has your writing evolved over the years?
Well, I used to write everything in one gigantic paragraph without pause. There was no way to tell who said what, and the punctuation was horrible. Since then I’ve learned to type in separate paragraphs and the punctuation is better, too. In terms of actual writing-style: I’m changing it every time I write. Of course I stick to what I know, but with every story there has to be a different atmosphere. I adapt my writing-style to the story I’m writing.

Why do you write fanfiction?
Writing fanfiction is fun. Plus, you don’t have to worry about creating your character from scratch. The characters have already been established, so all you need to do as the writer of the fanfic is come up with a story. It’s fun for me because I can put those characters that I love in situations that will make them act different than how we normally see them.

You’ve written quite a bit over the years, but not everything is on this website. Why is that?
Embarrassment, mainly. All the older stuff is horrible and even though I’ve learned from them, I shudder to think about putting them online again. They used to be on the Internet, but ever since my writing has changed, I didn’t put them back because I just can’t stand the thought of anyone reading it. Heck, I don’t even read the old stuff anymore. But this does make me want to find all those stories again, just as a remind, you know?

Is there any particular author you look up to?
Oh, there are a couple. I am absolutely in love with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s works. Her writing pulls me in every single time, especially her Dark-Hunter books. The characters she creates are people I want to claim I came up with. *laughs* No, really. If only I had the talent that she does. And you know, I just want to claim Nick Gautier for myself. *grins*

What are your plans for 2007?
Where writing is concerned, I plan to finish writing two novels. The first one being Becoming. I started writing it about two years ago, but after a summer of fervently writing to it, the muse for that particular story left me. Then last November, I re-opened the story and worked on it for a month for NaNoWriMo. I ended up adding over 30.000 words to it. Though I felt that the story was taking a road that I hadn’t planned on, I am now not so sure of that anymore. Re-reading it, I realized that this was quite possibly some of the best stuff I’ve written.

Anyway, long story short: Becoming will be finished this year. And I am also working on another novel that has been haunting me since I was 13. This year will finally be the year that the original Aemen will get to share her story.

Will you post those two novels on the website?
Probably not. Those two are novels that I want to get published. One thing I’ve picked up on is that you should never put your novels online if you want to get them published. So I’m just going ot share those two with my friends when I need some input.
